About This Blog...

Memorial Day is a time to reflect and commemorate the men and women of our military who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom and protection of our country.  We take this one day to honor these brave soldiers.  But the reality of the situation is that not all who sacrificed, actually died.  Many in combat, return home, missing limbs, body parts, and for some, even their minds.  They live with these reminders of their service every hour of every day that they continue to exist.  And being that the United States is the greatest country in the world, due in large measure to these honored men and women, they deserve the absolute best medical care that our nation can offer.  If we really want to pay our veterans back for the price they have paid, it should be a priority that they receive health care that is far and beyond what they now get throught the Veterans Affairs (known as the V.A. )  This is not an attack on the V.A., but a belief that I think we can do better.  The worst baseball player in the major leagues that receives any kind of injury has the disposal of the finest doctors and medical facilities to rehabilitate the damage, all paid for by the team owner.  The best we have to offer in way of military service personnel, not only attains less attention to their medical needs, but also has, many times, inadequate diagnoses.  Maybe I'm biased somehow, but this inadequacy is an injustice.  Truth be told, the United States Armed Forces should be first in line to the type of medical services that professional athletes have. I'm sure that my view is controversial because if it was held by the mainstream, something would have been done by now.  As it stands, all we do is use today to pay our respect and tomorrow, forget their suffering until this time again next year.  Hopefully, they will live that long to receive the nice pat on the back and the verbal "Thank You" that we muster up before running out to buy our new posturepedic mattress that is on sale, thinking we've done our part.  Is it really enough?  God help us!  And God help our fallen soldiers!
